@Runnin with scissors, Different populations developed unique physical characteristics and your ability to discern fine differences amongst them is mostly based on practice and familiarity. For instance if you have identical twins as siblings you might get really good at differentiating them but strangers can't. It's a safe bet that your family has similar shaped eyes, ears, mouths, and noses, to you and so you're great at fine pattern recognition with those. When you finally get exposed to uncommon, to you, patterns you focus on the big differences between what your used to and what you see most often. Since you aren't focusing on the fine details everyone with those big differences looks similar. Until you get some practice. If you're able to see fine differences with people it's just an indication that you've been regularly exposed to an ecclectic set of face shapes and features.
