@The Handlebar , that's what I'm saying... This is really #1? on Funnyism Picture (Upvotes: 132)
Actually it's a bunch of cool components working together at intense speeds. First thing I'll talk about is the motherboard, consider this the "skeleton" of the computer holding all its components. Next we have the central processing unit (CPU) and this thing is working all the time processing threads of data billions of times per second (hence GHz or 1,000,000,000/second). on Funny Pics (Upvotes: 69)
@thegoalie, you may consider the CPU the brain of the computer. now let's talk RAM, that's random access memory, and no this is NOT storage. RAM is what stores data right before it's handled by the CPU. Think of it as short term memory, or current thoughts. Next is storage, this is your hard drive. This does long term storage and cannot be directly used by the CPU. Think of this as long term memory. on Funny Pics (Upvotes: 59)
@thegoalie, then we have the power supply which converts AC wall power into DC power used by computers as to not destroy the previously stated components. Think of this as your intestines changing potential food energy into stuff your cells use to keep you alive. Too many people use computers without knowing anything about them. Sorry for the long post and I hope you learned something. on Funny Pics (Upvotes: 57)
